PTK Laser eye surgery

The surgical laser treatment of the cornea

Photo Therapeutic Keratectomy (PTK) is a surgical procedure for patients complaining of corneal abnormalities (which may result in irregular astigmatism), corneal opacification, corneal scars (posttraumatic, inflammatory, or post foreign body removal), corneal degeneration and dystrophies. This means that the PTK procedure treats the following problems:

  • corneal abnormalities,
  • corneal opacification,
  • corneal scars (posttraumatic, inflammatory, post foreign body removal),
  • corneal degeneration
  • corneal dystrophies and erosion.

PTK is a type of eye surgery which treats various vision disorders using excimer laser through reshaping of the cornea or removing some of the corneal tissue. The excimer laser treats superficial lesions of the cornea up to 100 microns and does not invade its deeper layers. Photo Therapeutic Keratectomy procedures are designed to improve vision acuity, alleviate pain, decrease photophobia and lacrimation, completely cure or reduce irregular astigmatism, night vision problems, light dispersion and many others.
