How to take proper care of the skin around the eyes?

01-03-2021

The skin on the eyelids and around the eyes is extremely thin and highly sensitive, which is why it requires special care. A small number of sebaceous glands responsible for skin protection and lubrication means that wrinkles appear very early in this particular area. What is more, the skin loses its elasticity, which in turn results in droopy eyelids and thus affect the way the whole face looks. The aging process cannot be completely stopped, but it can be slowed down and its signs can be diminished by following appropriate skin care routine.

Properly selected cosmetics are essential

A key feature of every beauty product is its composition – it should be rich in plant extracts and all sorts of oils, i.e. it should contain highly concentrated active ingredients, such as:

  • Hyaluronic acid – significantly lubricates and regenerates the skin
  • Collagen – is responsible for firmness and elasticity of the skin and delays the aging process
  • Retinol (vitamin A) – effectively combats free radicals and illuminates the skin
  • D-Panthenol (provitamin B5) – helps to maintain optimal level of skin lubrication, as well as softens, smooths out and regenerates the skin
  • Vitamin C – demonstrates strong anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory properties and significantly lightens skin pigmentation
  • Vitamin E – inhibits skin ageing process
  • Caffeine – has antioxidant function and stimulates microcirculation (tightens the skin)
  • Cannabidiol (CBD) – regulates functioning of sebaceous glands and demontrates antioxidant property
  • Snail slime – regenerates and lubricates the skin and delays the ageing process
  • Aloes – lubricates, soothes and regenerates the skin
  • Algae – provide appropriate lubrication, stimulates skin regeneration, smooth out the skin, have anti-ageing and nourishing properties
  • Ceramides – restore the lipid barrier, regenerate and protect the skin from moisture loss, soothe irritation and have anti-wrinkle properties
  • Peptides – increase skin density and firmness, minimise the effects of the skin ageing process
  • Coenzyme Q10 – neutralises the harmful effect of free radicals, which accelerate wrinkle development
  • Oils (e.g. argan oil or grapeseed oil) - nourish, boost elasticity, protect the skin from the harmful effects of various external factors and prevent skin moisture loss

Beauty products should be applied in the morning and in the evening by gentle patting, so as not to stretch the skin too much by rubbing. If you would like to provide your skin with greater amount of active ingredients from time to time, you should choose a serum or a facial mask. Apart from skin care routine it is also of great importance to follow a balanced diet, stay hydrated by drinking sufficient amounts of water and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Massage

The best-known and the cheapest way to improve your skin condition is a massage of the area around the eyes, which acts on the orbicular muscle. It is enough to devote approximately two minutes per day to perform the massage.

  • Warming massage – performed with fingers with the use of facial cream or oil. It improves facial skin blood supply and in turn allows the skin to stay firm and nourished.
  • Cooling massage – e.g. performed with pre-cooled jade roller. It improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, which results in puffiness reduction.

The magic of makeup

You can achieve an immediate rejuvenation effect by applying certain makeup tricks.

  • Colour correction – salmon concealer applied under the eyes neutralises dark circles.
  • Using the chiaroscuro effect – applying a concealer which is a tone lighter that your natural complexion will illuminate your look. If you are fed up with the so-called crow’s feet, apply a small amount of concealer into the wrinkles, which will optically reduce the lines and make them less visible.
  • Illumination – illuminating facial cream or concealer, as well as illuminating powder with light-diffusing particles applied under the eyes will give you fresh, rejuvenated look. You have to be careful, however, not to put them directly onto the wrinkles, as they would become more visible then.

Proper makeup removal is as important as the makeup itself – careless skin cleansing and inadequate removal of colour makeup cosmetics from the area around the eyes may lead to conjunctival irritation as well as eyelash brittleness and loss and premature wrinkle development.

You should remember that beauty products and massage will not enable you to get rid of already existing wrinkles completely or fully repair your flabby skin. Blepharoplasty is a perfect solution for you if you would like to achieve an immediate and long-term rejuvenation effect.
