The refractory implant lenses: this is not the only solution to treat defects of vision!

Our mission is to improve the quality of our patients' life. We recommend laser correction, because we are convinced of the effectiveness of this treatment, safety and its benefits. We follow the new developments in the treatment of vision defects, often answer our patients' questions and doubts concerning alternative methods. The laser vision correction treatment with our excimer laser from WaveLight may be carried out in the range of +6D to -14D, in some cases, when the defect goes beyond this range or the cornea is too thin, we advise patients to benefit from other available solutions. One option is to implant intraocular lenses. Many experts, including specialists from ArtLife, believe that this is a last resort in the treatment of eye diseases, because it carries a variety of possible complications and complications, most notably those related to the opening of eyeball:

• the endothelium of the cornea may be damaged and swelling, and as a result will be unwieldy,
• high risk of retinal detachment,
• intraocular inflammation,
• secondary cataract,
• glaucoma secondary.

Reactions and sensations after surgery may also carry certain risks. Very often, there is difficulty with seeing at night, there is also a permanent halo effect. The big problem is the depletion of the lens, which leads to wearing glasses, and if the error exceeds 3 dioptres, lens replacement surgery is then considered.
In addition, it may lead to:

• surgical intervention to move the lens in the eye,
• movement of the lens for vitreous,
• the risk of damage to the posterior lens bag, which in turn leads to a complex graft attachment to the sclera.

After the surgical treatment, in principle, patients must be under the supervision of a doctor, and, in the case of laser vision correction controls are only necessary in the first period after surgery with mild post - surgary side effects (if any at all). The laser vision correction treatments must also be carried out for patients after implanting intraocular lenses and after cataract operations, in order to improve the quality of vision. Surgical procedures, due to the complications, no possibility for an eye to regenerate and very high costs, are advised only in case of very complex defects.

We suggest that patients with particularly thin corneas should consult one of our experienced surgeons, who will recommend and perform an effective treatment.

Refractive lens implants are still not very common, but that surgery was offered to some our patiens in another clinic, although very young age and the ideal parameters to perform laser vision correction.
