Blepharoplasty – a perfect way of maintaining a radiant look

Young and radiant outlook is something we would like to preserve. Unfortunately, as the years go by, our skin becomes less and less elastic due to loss of collagen and elastin. Wrinkles – the first sign of ageing begin to show up. The around the eyes is particularly subject to this type of changes. Being very thin and delicate, it rapidly loses its' youthful qualities. Wrinkles begin to appear around the epicanthi, the skin becomes stretched and frail. This results in upper eyelid becoming floppy, while the lower eyelid forms under-eye pouches. The face becomes grim and tired.

Loose, droopy eyelids are a serious problem to many people. Not only this condition makes them look older but also may cause problems with vision. It can be corrected (hidden) with make-up but only to a certain point. Blepharoplasty (surgical correction of eyelids) becomes then a perfect solution to this problem. It consists of removal of excess skin and adipose tissue from the eyelids. The surgery is very short – takes only up to an hour. It is conducted with local anaesthesia. The dressing is removed after 24 hours and the delicate stiches are removed after 7 days. After few weeks, the patient may enjoy a beautiful, youthfully energetic look. There are no visible scars and the effects are long-lasting.

This plastic surgery can be performed at any age as long as the general state of the patient allows for it (both mental and physical). The qualification for the surgery is conducted by the doctor – ophthalmologist, ophthalmic surgeon.

Recently, blepharoplasty has become more and more popular not only with women. Men also undergo this surgery. It is often the mature people who decide the undergo the surgery, however, the problem of droopy eyelids also affects the young. In the latter group of patients, genetic factors seem to be of major importance.
