Preliminary qualifying examination for laser vision correction

Whether you are eligible for the laser vision correction procedure or not is based on the results of the preliminary qualifying examination. During the qualifying examination the doctor performs tests and measurements of the eyes in order to determine the most suitable method of laser vision correction for you. If you are qualified and you make the decision to undergo the surgery, the measurements and test results are entered into the laser system.

The tests and measurements performed during the qualifying examination for laser vision correction:

  • vision acuity examination at close and far distance,
  • measurement of intraocular pressure,
  • examination of the appendages of the eye,
  • measurement and analysis of the anterior segment of the eye,
  • eye fundus examination,
  • pachymetry, i.e. corneal thickness measurement (which determines the choice of laser vision correction method)
  • corneal topography (corneal map).

On the day of the qualifying examination you should not wear your contact lenses (and in case of the one-day procedure you should stop wearing them at least 7 days before the scheduled appointment), and you should not drive a car for the first 4 hours afterwards.

Patients frequently ask, it is possible to be not qualified for the laser eye surgery.

In order to minimise the risk of being disqualified from the surgery, during the registration process we ask a few particular questions regarding the patient’s age, type of vision defect (short-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism), expectations as to the correction results, and others, for instance questions about the condition of the eyes and the general health. You can pre-check your eligibility for laser vision correction by filling in and submitting ONLINE the Preliminary Qualification Form.

We perform the procedure with the cutting-edge excimer WaveLight® EX500 laser, which has been designed in such a way that it can correct a vision defect within the range of refraction between -14 diptres and +6 dioptres, and astigmatism up to 6 dioptres.

Laser vision correction is a procedurę suitable for people, whose growth process has finished (above 18 years of age) and whose vision defect has remained stable for at least a year. However, each time we take individual decisions regarding every patient. Laser vision correction may also be performed in patients who have undergone a refractive lens implantation or a cataract surgery in order to improve their vision quality.

Eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma or other serious contraindications will disqualify you from the laser vision correction procedure.

We offer a one-day laser vision correction procedure - the preliminary qualifying examination and the laser vision correction surgery are both conducted on the same day, which is a perfect solution for those who are decisive and have an active lifestyle. If you do not want to have the surgery on the same day, you can first make an appointment for the qualifying examination and then schedule the procedure for a different day, as the results of the examination are valid for up to six months.
